Biography

He was the Professor & Head of the Department of psychiatry at the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and the Research and Referral Hospital at Dehi in India. He was the Senior Adviser in Psychiatry to the armed forces of India at Delhi. Subsequently he headed a big Post Graduate teaching hospital. He was the Director of Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre as well as the Queen Mary Technical Institute at Pune, India. After his superannuation he headed the departments of two university medical colleges in the private sector.
He was the President of Indian Psychiatric Society, SAARC psychiatric Federation and the current president of the Association of Industrial Psychiatrists of India. He was a Board Member of the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Associations and represents Southern Asia(Zone16) region of WPA.
He developed the Military Psychiatry Specialty in India. He established the Tribal Psychiatry specialty section of Indian Psychiatric Society of which he is the patron. He is also the patron of the task force of Indian Psychiatric Society on Mental Health Care Act.
He has research interest in Psycho-endocrinology, imaging, Neurochemistry, Schizophrenia, Substance use and dreams. He authored 55 papers and presented more than 250 papers at various national and international conferences. He is widely travelled in India and abroad, can speak 5 Indian languages and also a smattering of French
