Biography

Jill has been a GP for 40 years, for the last 20 years mostly working in remote Aboriginal communities in the western desert of Australia, with refugees, in Doctors Health and in Medical Education. She helped establish mental health services in Vanuatu and has worked and taught in remote eastern Nepal, in Fukushima in Japan and currently in Tonga and Indonesia. She has presented and published nationally and internationally, mostly about medical education, refugee health doctors’ health, and mental health, and sits on national and international committees in these fields.
Jill’s PhD is in Public Health and her research since then has been both qualitative and quantitative. In 2019 she led a large project of 6 streams of research in order to develop a Workplace-based Assessment Framework for Australian General Practice Training. She is the secretary of the WONCA (World Organization of Family Doctors) Working Party for Mental Health and has been a member of this group since its inception. She is an Editor for the Asia Pacific Family Medicine Journal and has been part of the team rewriting the Australian Medical Council’s syllabus.
